Wheaten Terrier Haircut

Seamus got a haircut yesterday. His coat was way too long and it was starting to get matted. He got a shorter haircut than the one that he usually gets.
In this photo, now you can see his beautiful  big brown eyes. Stella did not even recognized him when he came home from the groomer. After the grooming, his coat looks very healthy and soft.

NATIONAL DOG DAY

Today we celebrate National Dog Day!! We are very grateful to have Seamus and Stella as part of our family, specially Stella, who is a rescue dog. She is a very loving dog and a great playmate to Seamus.
Both of them fill our house with lots of joy!

Seamus and Stella's Vacation

A few weeks ago, we went on our summer vacation. Seamus and Stella could not come with us because we were going on a cruise.

Seamus and Stella went to the kennel located at their veterinarian's office. I like this kennel because it only allows a small amount of dogs in their facility. Because of this, Seamus and Stella get a lot of attention and play time.

I feel very comfortable leaving them there because in case of any health emergency their veterinarian is available to evaluate them and treat them. This kennel offers a complementary bath and nail clipping on the pick-up day.

As you can see in the photo, both of them enjoyed their own vacation at their favorite kennel.

Fashionable Stella

Yummy Dog Food

Seamus and Stella are on a dry dog food diet. Because of Seamus' food allergies, he can only eat wheat free food. I add organic sweet potato to their dry food, and both of them love it. This is a very healthy addition to their diet.

Hanging Out

Seamus loves to hang out under the kitchen's table. When I am cooking in the kitchen, or when we are eating dinner, Seamus is always sitting under the table.

Wheaten Terrier Dental Hygiene

Periodic dental hygiene is very important in preventing periodontal disease. By regularly brushing the dog's teeth and incorporating healthy food in their diet, will help maintain a good dental hygiene.

Always use a dog's dental kit. The kit usually includes a pet toothbrush, a finger toothbrush, and pet-specific toothpaste. Do not use human toothpaste because it can upset your pet's stomach.

Here are some tips that you should do regularly to prevent periodontal disease in dogs:

1. inspect the dog's gums and teeth. Healthy gums should look pink and should not be swelling. The teeth should not have any brownish tartar. Note if the gums are red or white, and if there is any bloody discharge or any loose teeth.

2.  if the dog's breath is bad, it could be an indication of periodontal disease.

3. inspect the dog's mouth for any signs of cysts or tumors in the gums or tongue.

As you can see int the photo, Seamus and Stella are used to having their teeth brushed.  Always praise your dog as you brush their teeth so they don't get scare.
